At Pass IELTS Higher this is one book that we consistently and regularly advise our students to invest in as part of their preparation for the IELTS Test.
You don’t have to look too far online to find how highly it is regarded by students and English language teaching professionals alike.
Here are just a couple of reviews that caught my eye:
English Grammar in Use, Beginner and Intermediate Books. As a linguist and having taught a lot of ESL English in both Europe and Asia for many years, this book is outstanding in its simple presentation of the basic facts that all students need. The veritable bible of English Grammar! What’s more, all taught with the universal principle of timelines. The only way forward! This book provides the hardcore skeleton of ESL language learning, leaving plenty of room for teachers to improvise, create and adapt multiple activities and games from other sources in and around this backbone. The concept of time lines has been with me for 35 years! It provides a holistic understanding of the movement of verbs. I can think of no better way to teach language than this! I have been a longterm fan of R. Murphy and have just included his books in the freshman syllabus at my university in China: 500 copies no less! Try it! The layout starting with the progression in the index is perfect. Serious language students love and appreciate this book. – Rene Ordman, October 2010
One of the best grammar books I’ve ever seen. Teaches you intermediate level grammar in an easier to understand way with use of diagrams. Students can clear doubts about grammatical points using this book. Highly recommended for English students and English teachers. – Romesh Kapuge, February 2009
Overwhelmingly, the reviews I found online for [easyazon-link asin=”B004PC8E16″]English Grammar in Use[/easyazon-link] were very positive. The reason we recommend it, however, is because we have direct experience of using it to teach IELTS Test students and have found it to be very good.
For the opportunity to win a copy of the book, I want you to do two things:
Thing #1
Write between 30 and 50 words in the comments section below this post and tell me what you like about the Pass IELTS Higher website.
Thing #2
At the end of Thing 1 just write a single sentence telling me what else you would like to see on Pass IELTS Higher.

What I like about this site is that it’s very learner-focused. I believe it’s a great approach for candidates to prepare in for the actual IELTS exam. Apart from the practice or training materials readily available, its tips and pointers especially on the specific skills required for each task is just invaluable! It’s like everything is in it already, and it’s then up to the candidates to do their part.
James England says
Thank you for your kind words Adonis. We’re aiming to do just that – to provide tips, skills, training courses and other services for our visitors to use when preparing for their IELTS test. Thank you for taking part in the competiton.

Getting the desired band score in IELTS can be likened to climbing a steep hill. This is because of the reality that the language in which the four macro-skills are tested is inactively used in the country where the takers originate. This website lightens the burdens of the IELTS candidates. As you enter its door, you start to feel a guiding hand helping you to be at ease in your preparation. The tips, practice test materials and not to mention the know how for each skill necessary to ace each task are priceless! This website can be equalled to a compass-you will NEVER be lost. Kudos to the brain behind this!!!

Thank you Carmen. I’m humbled. It feels good to know our work and the website are appreciated.

What can be improved further is the update of every new topic of the writing test question in the real IELTS test with some model answer and analysis of the task.

I have been impressed by the great originality of every post on the Pass IELTS Higher website. It provides not only an overview towards specific tasks of IELTS tests but also tips and helpful tactics to improve the band score such as using similes and metaphors, examples of marked and corrected essays. It is like no other website I have ever encountered.
Real speaking tasks or writing tasks with answers along with explanations and interpretations of the way it is marked from scorers, and what candidates often misunderstand would make the website more appealing.

Thank you Tessa, your contribution is always appreciated. Thank you also for your kind words about the website and its content. We are trying hard to become the preferred IELTS online resource for IELTS Test candidates. It’s encouraging to hear that our hard work is being recognised and being well received. I like your suggestions for improvement of the site. Without giving too much away, watch this space in the future. We have plans to improve in ways not too dissimilar from the ideas you have put forwards.
Regards,
James

Dear,
Since I was child when I started English learning in my backhome country, I hated Grammar. I found it something complecated, not funny, and this made me feel so disappointed have no courage to communicate with people when I lived in UK.
I find this website is very intersting, many valuable information contains, for reading, speaking and writing.
I wish that my Grammar will improve therefore i will not find any difficulty in writing, and I wish to have the confidence with speaking without grammatical mistakes.
